What’s a Webby?

A Webby is an award presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), and is widely considered to be the internet equivalent of an Academy Award. The awards are given across five media types: Websites, Advertising and Media, Online Film and Video, Mobile Sites and Apps, and Social. There are two types of awards a nominee can win: The Webby Award and The Webby People’s Voice Award.
9 Webby Awards Went to WordPress Websites
Our hosting partners over at WP Engine recently acknowledged the WordPress Webby Winners on their blog. In the true spirit of our wonderful WordPress online community, we wanted to help share the love:

WordPress Website | Times Journeys
Award Category | Travel
Award Year | 2015
We are particularly fond of the highly customized menu bar that allows users to select destinations, trip types, and even departure dates. Users can also read about various destinations and travel styles, and copious amounts of high-quality photography certainly doesn’t hurt. What a great way to keep users engaged!

WordPress Website | 100 Happy Days
Award Category | Weird
Award Year | 2015
If you’ve spent much time on social media in the last year, you have probably seen the #100HappyDays hashtag. The challenge is simple: Find 1 thing to be happy about for 100 days in a row and share it with others. There’s a lot that can bring you down in this crazy world we live in, and having a website like this promoting a positive message helps to create that silver lining we’re all looking for. Kudos to 100 Happy Days!

WordPress Website | Zillow
Award Category | Real Estate
Award Year | 2016
When we decided we wanted to launch our digital agency in Fort Collins, CO, we started looking for a house. Between their website and mobile applications, Zillow was instrumental in our process of searching for a new home. They are definitely deserving of a Webby award!

WordPress Website | Gear Patrol
Award Category | Lifestyle
Award Year | 2015
Gear Patrol is a blog, magazine, and online store that promotes cars, culture, design, food/drink, outdoors, style, tech, travel, and watches. A pretty extensive list, but somehow they make all of those diverse components fit together into a compelling lifestyle narrative. Great work!

WordPress Website | The New Yorker
Award Category | Magazine
Award Year | 2016
Through its award-winning writing and poignant political commentary, The New Yorker has built up a strong reputation as a respected source of news and commentary. As print media continues to transition into the online space, it is clear that they have embraced this trend with a strong online presence.

WordPress Website | Momtastic
Award Category | Family/Parenting
Award Year | 2015
From pregnancy and parenting to DIY projects and health, Momtastic has clearly positioned itself as a one-stop shop in the family and parenting arena. They have it all and one thing is for sure: We’ll be coming back for more!

WordPress Website | TheUpshot (New York Times)
Award Category | Culture Blog
Award Year | 2015
If it is being discussed around the dinner table or in the board room, then The Upshot is probably writing about it. Looking at today’s front page, it is clear that they are dialed into what the average person is talking about in the United States. No wonder they took home a Webby for best Culture Blog!

This is all about the story behind National Geographic’s amazing photographs. They say a picture is worth 1000 words, but don’t take our word for it. Go check out PROOF and see for yourself!

WordPress Website | Alfred
Award Category | Best Use of Animation or Motion Graphics
Award Year | 2015
Let’s be honest: It is not every day that the website of a dry cleaning service blows you away, which is probably why Alfred won a Webby.
