Announcing Equalize Digital

Road Warrior Creative's New Website Accessibility Arm

Since 2016, Road Warrior Creative has been designing and developing websites for an increasing number of government agencies, public universities, K-12 schools, and nonprofits receiving federal grant dollars. These projects are interesting and challenging and have given us the opportunity to refine our skills in one particular area of note: website accessibility.

Why Accessibility

What is website accessibility?

Simply put, an accessible website is one that can be accessed and interacted with by people of all abilities using all devices, including assistive technology devices like screen readers.

Having an accessible website is actually a legal requirement – under Section 508 for entities receiving federal funding and for all businesses under the ADA.

We Strive to Make a Difference on the Web

User experience has always been a primary focus of our work, but while working on these publically funded projects, we’ve had the opportunity to experience first-hand the importance of accessible websites through the lens of blind and visually impaired testers.

More than 1 billion people in the world and 1 in 4 American adults have a disability which may prevent them from using or interacting with the online world in a traditional manner. As a creator of websites, applications, and digital content, we believe it is our social responsibility to ensure everything we build or create is usable by people of all abilities.

Living Our Values

From day one, Chris and I created Road Warrior Creative to be a purpose- and values-driven company. We strive to be a catalyst for positive change on the web and to set an example for how other entrepreneurs might do business. That’s why Road Warrior Creative is in the process of becoming a certified B-Corp and why we frequently talk with our clients about values-based marketing. It’s why both Chris and I frequently volunteer our time mentoring startups and first-time business owners. We want to do more than just help people sell widgets.

Over the past 12 months, the Road Warrior Creative team has felt increasingly called to make a greater impact within the world of web design and development, and we regularly discussed how to best achieve impact as a company. 2020 has been a year of unexpected twists and turns, and amid the chaos, we realized that internet accessibility was an area where we can have a significant impact.

After thoughtful consideration, we realized that we could have the greatest impact if we split this work into its own accessibility-focused brand and, thus, Equalize Digital was born.
